Make studying or memorising easier using a keyboard shortcut that lets you hear your notes out loud at a pace that you choose.

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Accessibility in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

Click Spoken Content.

Turn on “Speak selection”.

To have your Mac start speaking, press the specified keyboard shortcut (the default key combination is Option-Esc).
If you set the option to automatically show the controller, it appears onscreen when your Mac starts speaking. Use the controller to change the speaking rate, move forwards or backwards one sentence in the text, pause and resume speaking, or stop speaking.
Note: If no text items are available to speak, a sound plays when you press the keyboard shortcut.

To have your Mac stop speaking, press the keyboard shortcut again.

You can set a keyboard shortcut to quickly turn “Speak selection” on or off. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Keyboard in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down), click Keyboard Shortcuts, then click Accessibility.

Copy images, video or text from your Mac and paste them to your nearby Apple devices with Universal Clipboard — so you can get things done quicker.

Select the text or image on your Mac, then press Command-C or choose Edit > Copy from the menu bar.

On your other device, either tap (on an iPhone or iPad) or click (on another Mac) where you want to paste the text or image, then tap or click Paste.

Note: When you copy the content, it’s available on your Clipboard for a short time.

Use Split View to work with two apps simultaneously, like referencing a photo in Photos as you draw in Procreate. Or view two windows of the same app, like when you’re working with notes from two different days in class.

To work in Split View and Slide Over, you need to have these features turned on in Settings.

Go to Settings , then tap Multitasking & Gestures.

Below Multitasking, turn on Split View and Slide Over.

Open a second app in Split View

While using an app, tap (the three dots at the top of the app), tap , then tap to have the current app appear on the left side of the screen, or to place the current app on the right. The app you’re using moves to the side to reveal your Home Screen and Dock.

Find the second app you want to open on your Home Screen or in the Dock, then tap it. The two apps appear in Split View.

Get creative with the drawing tools. Tap (or just use your Apple Pencil) to start drawing. Adjust the line’s thickness, transparency, colour and more, and pinch to zoom in and out as you work.

Start on one device, keep working on another. The Freeform boards you store in iCloud — and any changes you make to them — stay up to date on all your Apple devices when you’re signed in to the same Apple Account. To use iCloud with Freeform, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > See All (in the Saved to iCloud section), then turn on Freeform.

Minimise notifications and distractions with Focus. Set a Focus on Mac and it easily syncs across your other Apple devices.

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Focus in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

Do one of the following:

Add a provided Focus: Click Add Focus, then click a Focus, such as Gaming or Work.

Create a custom Focus: Click Add Focus, then click Custom. Enter a name, select a colour and icon, then click OK. For example, you might create a Study Focus. You can create up to ten.

You can also schedule a Focus to turn on or off automatically, customise app behaviour, and use Apple Intelligence to show you only the most important notifications.

Background sounds volume: Drag the slider to increase or decrease the volume of the background sound.

Turn off background sounds when your Mac is not in use: Automatically turn off background sounds when your Mac is in sleep, the screen saver is on or the screen is locked.

In the Mail app on your Mac, click Undo Send at the bottom of the sidebar within 10 seconds of sending an email (or choose Edit > Undo).

Note: To change the amount of time you have to unsend emails or to turn Undo Send off, choose Mail > Settings, click Composing, click the “Undo send delay” pop-up menu, then choose an option.
